Angry shouldn't be a state of mind

I should change my name from Silly Girl to Angry Girl. I am tired of being angry. I wake up this way and go to bed this way. Yesterday, I was so mad that I almost kicked a dog and tripped a co-worker. I didn't do it but I thought about it. This is not healthy.  I am frustrated by how things are going in my life (mainly work). I don't like being so negative and bitter at the world. I mean I am not a happy go lucky person but I do try to have a balance. Balance is good. It keeps the karma good.

So I am taking matters in my own hand to find a balance. I felt better after going to church Sunday and I am going home to visit JJ this weekend. He always makes me feel better about life. 

To keep things in perspective I am working on a list of things I am grateful. My list keeps me in a a happy place.

I am grateful for :

1. My son JJ, who is my heart and soul.

2. My favorite aunt Em, who reminds me of my mother.

3. My shoe collection that represents my many moods.

4. My purse collection, which is stored in what should be the pantry full of food.

5. Being able to tune ED out 85 percent of the time.

6. Blasting my favorite songs on the radio while dancing around the living room.

7. Chicken tenders with ranch dressing

8. Chicken alfredo made by the cool catering chick

9. Having the ability to write 350 words on a subject for an article when there is really nothing to write.

10. Knowing its okay to veg on the couch while reading magazines and eating Snapple popsicles.

11. Snapple popsicles--how I love thee

12. Understanding the importance of being the family photographer

13. Listening to my son and nephew talk while eating cookies and drinking juice. It is like watching two little old men in the bodies of five-year-olds. The Spongebob vs Bob the Builder was the funniest conversation I have ever overheard.  

14. Having a giant pancake with tons of butter, syrup and bacon for lunch. 

15. Reminding myself that this job provides the insurance for the meds I need to help me make it through each day. So I am grateful for my remeron. That one little pill makes all the difference in the world. 

There are more things but these take me to a happy place.  And help to take me from being Angry Girl to Silly Girl.

  2. I have been happy the past few days. Right up until I got to numbers 7&8 on your list. I am now so hungry for the afore mentioned food that I could kick a dog. Ok...not a dog but a co-worker. Wishing you peace and JOY!

  3. I'm so sorry you are going through such a rough time! I know that journalism is a tough field, and it can sometimes be a lot of work with little in return. I imagine there probably have been cutback there, and you are sounds pretty familiar. Maybe you could use a punching bag to get some of that anger out. You have a lot of reasons to be angry right now; you've had a lot of losses and I know you miss your son during the week, and the uncertainties of your marriage...Anyone would be falling apart with all that.

    But hang in there! You are doing so great with overcoming your eating disorder, and you will get through this, too.


  4. P.S. Dancing in the living room sounds like an awesome idea. I've been trying to think of something physical to do to get rid of my anger and stress, but I hate formal exercises. Thanks for the idea!

Stopping ED from gaining

One of the hardest things I had to ever do was to explain my ED to my 11-year-old son. His father had talked to him about it, which I have an issue with  because it is my story and not his. But I have tried to move beyond that.

Anyway, a few weeks I talked to him about it and explained it as best I could. I told him how he is my inspiration to stay in recovery. I know he needs his mom to be healthy to help handle growing up.
One thing I told him was that my relationship with food is not like his relationship. And there will always be a struggle for me. I take it one meal at a time.
I kept all of this in mind when I went to the doctor yesterday to ask for help. In the past three months, my appetite has disappeared. I eat because I don’t want to pass out or to be hospitalized. It hasn’t been easy. I could have let ED win when I realized what was happening. I have only lost 11 pounds. To some this is not much weight but to me it is.

Spending time with my son

Memorial Day is always special for me as a reporter and a person. It is a chance to recognize who gave their life so I and others can have the freedom we have. 
Normally, I work and get to take Memorial Day holiday on another day. This year, I got a double bonus. 

I got to spend the long weekend with my son. Things some how worked that my son’s aunt met me halfway and JJ was able to spend three days in Pickle Land with me. He had a chance to see me working and spend quality time together.

JJ is now 11. He is squarely in the pre-teen world. His voice is changing along with other things. My baby is growing up and it scares me. He got to see my new teeth and loved them. He said it was nice to see me so happy. 
We had a chance to talk and just spend some time together. And in two weeks, he returns for a two week involving my week long vacation and a bunch of day camps. It has been a good few days.
The other part is my Memorial Day weekend is this weekend. I'm going to the Lake to hang with…

Adventures at Librari-Con with Samurai Batman

Recently, JJ and I made our second journey to the 11th annual Librari-Con at the Cumberland County Public Library in Fayetteville.  This is an annual anime/graphic novel/sci-fi mini convention that featured anime viewing, panels forums, Artist Alley, Cosplay Runway and more.
What made this event super awesome was the fact that the library was opened at the same time of the event.
For a year, JJ had talked about having a costume after not being able to wear one last year. He was a Samurai Batman.
Apparently, JJ had a growth spurt in the last few weeks so there was struggle getting him into his costume, but a little pulling, binder clips and prayer got the costume on him.

I decided to go as my favorite thing – a mother/photographer/bodyguard/book nerd wearing a Wonder Woman shirt.
JJ decided to add his own special touch to it with a trident and a Flash mask for me. I’m not sure what I was supposed to have been but I played along until lunchtime.
