From Dr. Seuss to bomb threats

When you work at a newspaper, you never know what the day will be like. You could come in expecting to take photos of 100 day of school event and end of covering a bank robbery. I never know. My goals each day are to have two stories done and getting home at a decent time.

On Thursday, I went to a school to cover the Cat in the Hat making an appearance at a local middle school. Simple assignment. Instead as I sat in the audience surrounded by students waiting for the assembly, I watch the principal and other school personnel rush onstage.

The principal announces to the students that they need to go to the football field. No one asked questions. They just cleared the building. As the principal rushed pass, I asked her what was going on. She told me that someone had called 911 and said there was a bomb in the school.

Now let's be honest for a second. My thought is to run. I don't want to be hurt but my second is that this could make that day's newspaper as a story. I snapped photos of the students heading to the football, interviewed the principal and talked with the superintendent. Not a bad day's work before 10:30 a.m. I guess I was in the right place at weirdest time.

Overall, it has been an ok week. I can feel my new medication taking hold. I am not as exhausted as  I have been. It took three tries but I finally got up and dressed by 1:30 p.m. It was so nice not having to scrape ice off of my car. I am going to have to make some changes soon in my life. I am not sure what but some changes.

My son!

Right now, I am in midst of a cleaning and preparing for JJ to come for spring break. I am keeping my fingers crossed. I am cheating with the cleaning by basically putting everything in the back bedroom and shutting the door. My son knows I am not a neat person. He is only interested in being able to having a vacation in RR. I am so looking forward to him coming here.

DAILY DOSE

1. Roughly 26 days before my vacation with JJ.

2. Hurray for the medicine working!

3. Having an exciting job.

Comments

  1. Bomb threat?? CRAZY! Glad it wasn't anything big and that you got the story. Schools are a scary place these days.
